LIFE DRAWING WITH THE HILO ARTISTS HUI

Details: Open to all. Children younger than 18 years old must provide permission from a parent to attend. Cost is $10 per person. Arrive a few minutes early. Sessions feature drawing from a nude or partially draped model in a traditional format, starting with one minute gesture drawings and working up to 20 minute poses. Chairs are provided; however, participants must furnish their own drawing materials. Bring a drawing board or easel; 11-by-14-inch or larger pad of paper is recommended. All mediums are fine to use. If you wish to paint using traditional oils you must use a low odor, artist-grade solvent.

PAINT YOUR OWN SILK SCARF WITH PATTI PEASE JOHNSON

Details: Big Island artist and instructor Patti Pease Johnson teaches this workshop. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, enrolling a loved one in this workshop makes a great gift! In this workshop, you’ll paint your own 8-inch x 53-inch scarf using three colors of your choice, which will create many more colors on the silk. Beginner and intermediate artists are welcome. In the final hour, students will use hot wax with the tjanting tool on Habotai silk to outline your more representational design and create a resist line for the dyes.
